Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book an appointment?

You can use the contact form by clicking on "Book Now" at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can also call or email me. You will then be contacted to ask you some questions and a link will be sent to you to enter your information in the patient portal. Please note that contacting me does not establish a treatment relationship. I cannot accept you as a patient unless and until we determine that there is a fit and until various requirements, such as fee arrangements, are resolved.

How do I decide if therapy or medications are right for me?

During your initial consultation we will discuss different treatment modalities and decide together how best to proceed. This is an important question and your preference for treatments may change during different periods.

How do I know if psychoanalysis is right for me?

Determining whether psychoanalysis is right for you is a nuanced and individualized process. Readiness for analysis can change over time, what may not have been a good fit at one stage of life could become beneficial later, or with a different analyst. Because psychoanalysis involves a significant commitment of time, emotional investment, and frequency, I approach this decision thoughtfully. An initial consultation period that often spans several sessions, allows us to assess fit collaboratively and help you make an informed decision about whether analysis aligns with your goals and circumstances.

What conditions do you evaluate or treat?

I evaluate and treat a variety of conditions including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, PTSD (Post-Taumatic Stress Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).

Do you provide treatment for children under 18?

At this time, I am unable to provide medication treatment for patients under 18 years of age. I may accept patients under 18 on a case  by case basis for psychotherapy or psychoanalysis.

Do you evaluate for or diagnose autism spectrum disorder?

I do not evaluate or diagnose autism spectrum disorder in children or adults.

Do you treat individuals outside of the state of Illinois?

I am only licensed in the state of Illinois at this time and I'm not able to provide psychiatric treatment to individuals outside the state of Illinois at the time of the appointment. If you are outside of Illinois at the time of your appointment, the appointment will be cancelled and you will be charged a cancellation fee. Coaching and consultation appointments are available for individuals outside the United States.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes, I offer telehealth appointments by phone and by video through a secure, confidential and HIPAA compliant platform.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel less than 48 hours from your appointment time, or if you are not in the state of Illinois at the time of your appointment, you will be charged a $100 cancellation fee.

I need paperwork completed by a psychiatrist, can you help me?

Please mention the kind of form you need completed when you contact me. Generally, most forms need an ongoing treatment relationship. Please note there are forms I do NOT complete as a matter of policy regardless of the length of treatment.

Do you take insurance?

I am unable to accept any form of insurance at this time. You can ask for a printed statement (superbill) which you can use for personal reimbursement by your insurance company. Reimbursements may be as high as 80% depending on your insurance.

How do I make a payment?

You will be sent an invoice on making an appointment, payment is required upfront and at least 48 hours prior to the appointment.

Do you complete disability paperwork, workers compensation evaluations or independent medical evaluations?

No, I do not perform disability evaluations, workers’ compensation assessments, or Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs), including court-ordered assessments or legal documentation for insurance or employment purposes. These types of evaluations often require a specialized forensic or occupational psychiatry approach, and are outside the scope of care I provide at Harth.

Will my insurance company see my records?

No. I do not bill insurance or disclose treatment to any third party unless required by law or authorized by you.
