Psychiatry and Psychotherapy for Arabic Speaking Individuals in Chicago

Services for Arabic Speakers

I grew up in the Middle East speaking both Arabic and English. I am a native speaker who grew up in an international and multicultural community and have experience with different Arabic accents and dialects including Levantine, Gulf, Egyptian, and North African dialects.

Many individuals seek a native Arabic speaker for care because they prefer to speak, think and reflect in their own language. For many people, emotions, memories and thoughts are not only embedded in their cultural or religious backgrounds but are also more accessible to them in that context, making the use of a translator taxing or less authentic. For many, access to Arabic cultural and relational nuances and a beautifully descriptive language with multi-layered metaphors can add a depth to their mental health treatment that can often get neglected.

Additionally, individuals may find it easier to speak to someone aware of the stigma of mental health in our communities as well as someone who is sensitive to issues regarding identity, sexuality, gender, religion and living in diaspora. When therapy or medications are discussed in a space that values and respects a person's cultural framework and their identity, it can help the individual establish the sense of safety needed for nurturing growth.

Private, Confidential, Discreet with Separate Building Entrance and Exit

I provide all my services in both Arabic and English and can conduct sessions fluidly switching between the two without the need for translators or outside parties. In addition, because I don't accept insurance, your medical information always remains confidential even when getting insurance reimbursements. Your information is almost never shared without your express consent except in a few special circumstances we would discuss upfront.

Many people find it assuring that my practice has a separate entrance and exit to the office as well as to the building. I use staggered scheduling, giving enough time between patient appointments for individuals to exit and enter the building; as well as time-coded entry into the building, so only individuals with appointments are able to enter the building. I employ these measures because of how important confidentiality is to me and how much I value creating a private space for you that feels safe both before and after our appointments. I also use a HIPAA compliant patient portal for patient phone calls and video calls to conduct therapy or medication review appointments.
